SUNDAY SCHOOL: Get ready to Live B.I.G! Live B.I.G. is designed to help our toddlers through 5th grade children learn about the love of God through Jesus so they can live their “Belief in God”. Using a DVD component, teachers are supplied with resources that go beyond the classroom and engage children with Christian role models and a deeper understanding of Jesus and the impact he can have on their lives. Through these resources teachers and children will come to know and love God and Jesus so that they can answer the question, “How can I live B.I.G.?” If you would like to be involved, contact Children’s Ministries using the contact information at the bottom of this page. Sunday School is a year-round ministry. Register for Sunday School
CHILDREN'S CHURCH: There’s nothing small about Children’s Church except for the size of the Christians worshipping. This fall, we’re taking the next step towards making Children’s Church mirror the worship that goes on in the “big” sanctuary. Our goal is a meaningful, age-appropriate way for the kids to praise and worship God. That means praise music, joys/concerns, prayer, and a “message” geared towards them. Of course, your children are welcome to stay with you in the worship service. If they do, pick up a book or a “worship bag” containing quiet activities on the way into service. Children's Church is a year-round ministry.
AWANA: The goal of every Awana component – large-group lessons, Bible-centered handbooks, Scripture memory, small-group interaction, team-oriented games, awards and more – is to prepare children and teens to know, love and serve Christ. It’s an exciting approach to teaching God’s Word, combining learning with irresistible fun to produce lifelong results in churched and unchurched kids alike … and reaching their families, too! Awana has a rolling admission, so it’s never too late to register. Awana meets from September through May. Learn more about Awana here
NURSERY: The Nursery is available on Sunday mornings for infants and toddlers and during meetings and events for babies through age 12 (but please check with your meeting chair or event coordinator prior to the date to make sure childcare arrangements have been made). PAID childcare positions are available. This is a great opportunity for anyone who loves being with the children of OBUMC. . We are in need of adding to our provider list immediately in order to be able to continue providing care as requested. If there is someone who has been a provider in the past and would like to continue doing so, please contact Children's Ministries to update our records. Basic Training will be provided! For more info please contact Children's Ministries (703-730-3895, ext 103; OBUMCchildren@verizon.net)
MOTHER'S DAY OUT: MDO is a co-operative three hour program for babies and preschoolers and their parents. The parent may leave their child in the Nursery or Preschool Childcare Rooms for a three hour period (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) once or twice a week and then work once or twice a month. All Mothers have a police background check performed so we know that our little ones will be safe in their care. A $50.00 Bi-Annual Fee applies. MDO meets September through May.
CHILDREN'S MUSIC MINISTRY: The children's music ministry at OBUMC welcomes kids to find a place to worship and serve God in the church. There are currently 3 opportunities to get involved, including Cherub Choir, Children's Choir, and Hand Chimes Choir. Cherub Choir is geared toward ages 3 – 5, and parents are strongly encouraged to participate. Children’s Choir is designed to teach kids in the 1st through 5th grades a blend of contemporary praise and traditional worship music; guiding children to draw closer to God through the rhythms and notes that permeate our daily lives. Hand Chimes Choir is provided for children and youth in the 3rd through the 8th grades. Holy Spirit speaks to us through music, and the songs that we learn as children stay with us for a lifetime!
