Support GroupsMilitary Family and Friends Support Group
In our support group we have parents, spouses, family, and friends of deployed service members. We meet monthly to provide each other with support through prayer and fellowship.
We send cards and letters of encouragement to our deployed service members and occasional "care packages." The date and time of each monthly meeting is in the church bulletin and on the church calendar.
If you have a family member deployed, please give us their information (name and address) so that we can include them in our prayers and mail them correspondence/packages from our church family.
For more information please contact Meg Aswell at 703-490-1217 or meggiea100@aol.com
Alzheimer's Family and Caregivers Support Group
This group meets at the church the third Thursday of each month at 7pm.
Griefshare
Griefshare is for people who are grieving the death of a loved one. Griefshare groups meet weekly to help you face the challenges associated with the deep hurt of this loss and help you move toward rebuilding your life. Each Griefshare session has three elements: (1) a video seminar with experts, (2) support group discussion with focus, and (3) workbook-based personal study and reflection.
While many other life situations bring deep grief, if you are struggling with a loss not due to a death, Griefshare is not designed to meet your grief needs for healing.
Each Griefshare cycle is 13-weeks, but you are welcome to begin attending the group at any session.
The OBUMC GriefShare support group meets Thursday evenings starting January 12, 2012. If you are mourning the loss of a loved one, you are not alone. Through a video series and group discussion we will travel together on the journey from mourning to joy. New members can join at any time during the 13-week series. The registration fee covers the cost of a participant workbook. Childcare is avalable with 48 hours advanced notice. For general information about the GriefShare program see GriefShare.org. Contact at OBUMC is Jim Relyea, jimrelyea@aol.com
